
Adaptive Dance for All Abilities
iDance is an adaptive dance program designed for individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages and ability levels. Through movement, music, and performance, dancers build confidence, strength, social connection, and creative expression in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
iDance is the flagship program of Inclusive Arts Ohio and serves as a foundation for many of our creative and vocational opportunities.
What Is iDance?
iDance provides structured, adaptive dance instruction that meets dancers where they are. Classes are designed to support a wide range of physical, cognitive, sensory, and learning needs while celebrating individuality and artistic expression.
Our instructors adapt choreography, pacing, and teaching methods so every dancer can participate meaningfully and feel successful.
Dance Styles Offered
- Hip-Hop
High-energy movement focusing on rhythm, musicality, and expressive style - Tap
Rhythm-based movement that supports coordination, timing, and auditory feedback - Combo
A blend of dance styles that encourages variety, exploration, and creativity
Class Levels
iDance classes are organized into levels to ensure appropriate support, challenge, and growth for each dancer.
Levels 1 & 2
Beginner & Early Experience
These classes are designed for dancers in their first years of participation or those who benefit from additional guidance and structure.
Focus Areas
- Rhythm and counting with music
- Basic movement patterns
- Coordination and balance
- Social interaction and group participation
- Creative movement and self-expression
Classes include a variety of activities that allow dancers to explore their own movements while practicing foundational choreography.
Class Length: 45 minutes
Levels 3 & 4
Intermediate & Advanced Experience
These classes are designed for dancers with previous dance experience who are ready for longer classes and increased movement complexity.
Focus Areas
- More advanced choreography and sequencing
- Improved balance, coordination, and endurance
- Cardiovascular fitness
- Stage presence and performance skills
- Independent movement choices and expression
Class Length
- Level 3: 60 minutes
- Level 4: 90 minutes
As levels progress, dancers are encouraged to build stamina and confidence while continuing to receive individualized support as needed.
How Classes Are Adapted
iDance classes are intentionally flexible and inclusive. Adaptations may include:
- Modified choreography or movement options
- Visual, verbal, and physical prompts
- Sensory-aware teaching approaches
- Individual pacing and rest opportunities
- Support for mobility devices or seated movement
Our goal is not perfection — it is participation, growth, and joy.

iDance dancers have the opportunity to participate in:

- Experience the joy of applause and recognition
Participation in performances is encouraged but not required. Every dancer’s comfort level is respected.

iDance is open to:
- Children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities
- Individuals of all genders and identities
- Dancers with or without prior experience
Classes are inclusive, affirming, and designed to honor each dancer’s individuality.
Funding & Support
Inclusive Arts Ohio accepts all Medicaid Waivers through the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
